Our Story

In the fall of 1974, Dr. Robert Lofton and his wife Lela purchased a small mobile home, performed some renovations, hung out a shingle, and University Animal Clinic was born. Since the beginning the idea has always been to be available, to practice high-quality medicine, and to service clients and pets at a very high level. Operating by that core philosophy, University Animal Clinic rapidly out grew the original clinic and moved into our current building in 1976. In 1978 Dr. Michael Woodward, an Auburn University honor graduate, joined the practice and later became a partner. In 1993 Dr. Karen Goeckel graduated from LSU and joined the staff at UAC, and in 2013 became Co-Managing DVM along with Dr. Woodward. Over the years, the philosophy has remained the same. Be available to service clients the same day with high quality medicine and surgery. From advanced medical workups utilizing in-house laboratory, x-ray, and ultrasound, to advanced surgeries, from chest and abdomen to complex orthopedics to spinal surgeries, University Animal Clinic continues to build its reputation as the place to go when it must get done.
